Current position:

On 30 May 2008 by unanimous vote of the Croatian Parliament Ms Slonjsak was appointed the first Croatian ombudswoman for persons with disabilities.

Her appointment to this duty was preceded by a very intense work in associations of persons with disabilities in cooperation with federations of persons with disabilities, both in Croatia as well as abroad.

Career and other professional activities:

In the period from 1994 to 2008 Ms Slonjsak took part in workgroups working on the introduction of low floor vehicles and drafting the Act on construction and The Accessibility Bylaw.

From 2004 to 2008 Ms Slonjsak was a project manager on two projects of the Croatian association of para and tetraplegics: Prevention and educational activities for children and the young and The week of persons with spinal cord injury.

Ms Slonjsak actively cooperated on a great number of projects aimed at improving the quality of living of persons with disabilities some of which include the projects Rehabilitation in the community, Peer Counselling and civil army service through personal assistance.

Ms Slonjsak actively participated in a great number of seminars, conferences and workshops organised by the Croatian Federation of Associations of persons with disabilities (SOIH) involving international conferences such as the one organised by Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNET) on the application of IT technologies at which she gave the presentation on the use of IT technology by persons with tetraplegia.

From 2006 to 2008 Ms Slonjsak was a project manager on the project Personal Assistant for persons with most severe disabilities. Ms Slonjsak coordinated the cooperation with the College of Health Professionals and University center for social work organising field education and volunteering of students with persons with disabilities.  

Ms Slonjsak led various workshops on the topics of relevance to persons with disabilities such as Violence against persons with disabilities at a conference organised by the International Federation of persons with physical disabilities (FMITIC).

Ms Slonjsak worked as a coordinator of cultural and social activities for members of Croatian Association of persons with paraplegia and tetraplegia. She took part in educational courses for women with disabilities and completed a course on counselling women with disabilities-victims of violence over the phone.

From 1997 to 2008 Ms Slonjsak worked as an advisor for accountancy in Emporion Ltd. company.

Ms Slonjsak participated in the work of the Committee for drafting criteria for implementation of the Pilot-project Personal assistant for persons with most severe physical impairment with the Ministry of Family, Veterans' Affairs and intergenerational solidarity.

At the time of assuming her position as the ombudswoman for persons with disabilities she was a member of the Board of the Association of Persons with spinal cord injuries Zagreb and editor-in chief of the magazine published by the Croatian Association of persons with paraplegia and tetraplegia.

Till a traffic accident in 1992 which resulted in the permanent disability due to cervical vertebrae injury Ms Slonjsak had been a professional handball player with handball clubs Tresnjevka and Podravka. She was a member of the Croatian national junior handball team.

Since 2007 Ms Slonjsak has been a member of the International association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists.
